TAFE

So you're thinking of dropping out? Maybe your circumstances have changed - you've got a new job or have a personal, family or financial problem.

We know you've put a lot of time and effort into your course and it seems a shame to waste that.

So before you make any decisions, check out our range of options available to support, advise and provide direction to you. You might find that you can stay on after all.

  Options

There are a range of options available that you should consider:

Change the way you study

If you're doing a full-time course, maybe part-time or evening classes would suit you better. There's also a range of off-campus courses that mean you don't have to come on campus at all, and can study at the time, place and pace you prefer.

See www.swin.edu.au/coursefinder for options with your course, discuss it with your teacher and look at www.tafe.swin.edu.au/offcampus for courses delivered off-campus.

Let your work help your learning

Congratulations if you've found a job, but it doesn't have to mean you don't get your qualification. You may be able to complete your course through a work-based project, or by being assessed on-site at your workplace. You need to discuss this with your teacher.

If you want to come back to study at a later stage and complete your qualification, you can also apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) or Recognition of Current Competency (RCC). This will allow the skills and experience you gave gained from work to be used towards your qualification.

Get back on track with your course

Swinburne offers a range of options to assist you, ranging from financial advice, housing and employment assistance to counselling and individual study support. Before you drop out come and have a chat to your teacher or a counsellor from Student Services.

Go for now, come back later

If you really don't want to continue on with your study at the moment, that's fine. You can re-enrol in your course later - discuss this with your teacher or course coordinator.

If you wish to officially withdraw from your course, forms are available from Teaching departments, Student Administration, the Internet or any Student Information Centre. Failure to officially withdraw may result in you not receiving any refund that may be due to you and result statements may show failure instead of withdrawal. For more details of how to withdraw please refer to our website at http://www.tafe.swin.edu.au/admin/docs/Withdrawal.htm.
