Certificate IV in TAA:
Background
BTAA40104Certificate IV Training and Assessment (TAA) is a nationally accredited course and is the new minimum requirement for teachers who do not currently hold BSZ40198 Cert IV in AWT to teach and assess in a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) More information about the AQTF standards for teachers click here. NB: Current practising teachers who hold the BSZ40198 Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training are not required to upgrade to the CIV in Training and Assessment qualification to be AQTF compliant at this stage.
However teachers who wish to progress to the top of the salary structure outlined in the current Industrial Agreement (MECA) are required to gain a qualification at AQF5 level or above. Click here for more info.
Structure of the Certificate IV in TAA for Swinburne staff
There are 14 units which make up the Certificate IV in TAA - 12 core and 2 electives.
At Swinburne we have developed these units into 3 clusters. To complete the full qualification you need to complete all 3 clusters. However if you have BSZ40198 Cert.IV AWT and want to upgrade to complete the full qualification it will take you approximately a year. You can start the course with any cluster. Course delivery and assessment
Course delivery is via workshops, online learning and out of class project work. As this is a nationally accredited program requiring assessment, participants will be expected to spend at least as much time in supported out of class hours undertaking project work as spent in workshops.
Assessment for all units of competency in this qualification require you to demonstrate your skills in your workplace and are customised as far as possible to your work environment at Swinburne.
The TAA04 training package has specific evidence requirements and assessments will be conducted in class as part of learning as well as by project work and/or portfolio.
You will be given all `information about assessments on the first day of each cluster which includes due-by dates, result codes and other important information.

About the cluster
In this cluster you will develop the knowledge and skills to:
- Analyse and unpack units of competency
- Apply the AQTF principles to assessment in a Swinburne context
- Plan and organise competency based assessments in different VET environments
- Assess the competence of learners/ candidates using different assessment methods eg RPL
- Develop a range of assessment tools which meet AQTF standards, the principles of assessment and rules of evidence
- Participate in assessment validation activities
Assessment is through participation in action learning group activity in class and workplace project
Using your current learners.

About the cluster
In this cluster you will develop the knowledge and skills to:
- Identify and access the national ,state and Swinburne policies which apply to your role as a VET practitioner
- Identify features of the national training framework (NTF) eg. Industry Training Packages , Australian Qualifications Framework, Australian Quality Training framework and apply the relevant knowledge to your work in accredited programs
- Access and apply the legislation which underpins these units
- Access and apply the Swinburne quality policies and procedures
- Create and maintain an inclusive learning culture
- Ensure a healthy and safe learning environment
- Find relevant information in an industry training package and use it to create learning programs to meet client needs. This includes the use of a variety of learning , strategies, resources, costing and client communication .
Assessment is through research tasks and projects.

In this cluster you will develop the knowledge and skills to:
- Use competency standards as basis for planning training sessions
- Design a sequence of training sessions
- Create session plans which meet AQTF standards
- Identify different learning styles and develop learning materials to meet learner needs
- Understand and apply adult learning principles and learning theories
- Facilitate learning using a range of strategies for individuals and groups
- Facilitate learning for individuals in a work based learning pathway
- Evaluate learning
This cluster of units is assessed partially in the workshops and also workplace projects and/or evidence portfolios.
Bridging Program- upgrade from BSZ40198 Cert.IV AWT to BTAA40104 Cert.IV TAA
Attend 5 workshops 9.00 – 4.30
For staff who hold the 8 units of the BSZ40198 who want to upgrade to upgrade to TAA
On producing your BSZ40198 results you can apply for credit transfer for 6 units of the new TAA.
You will need to complete training or undertake RPL for the 8 units below.
