BlackBoard Learning System (WebCT) and Java
You MUST have a compatible version of the Java Runtime Environment
(JRE) to use many BlackBoard Learning System (WebCT)
tools. The only version supported by Swinburne is 1.5.0_07
Swinburne can only provide support for Java problems in Windows XP with SP2
Here are instructions for installing this version.
- First delete all existing versions of Java, if any.
From the Start menu choose Settings => Control Panel
=> Add or Remove Programs .

- If the 'J2SE Runtime' is in the list of
programs presented, remove all versions of it by first selecting it
(with the mouse), and then clicking the 'Remove'
button.

- Close the 'Add or Remove Programs' Window and the 'Control
Panel'.
- Obtain the correct version of Java by CLICKING
HERE and then run the downloaded file.

- There are a small number of questions which require answering
during this processing: choose 'yes'
or equivalent to each.
NOTE 1: this file is 18 megabytes in size, so it may
take a long time to download (approximately 55 minutes on a 56K dialup
line).
NOTE 2: The instructions above are for Windows
users.
If you are using some other system download the appropriate java from
http://javashoplm.sun.com/ECom/docs/Welcome.jsp?StoreId=22&PartDetailId=jre-1.5.0_07-oth-JPR&SiteId=JSC&TransactionId=noreg∞
Mac OSX users will need to get their version of Java from Apple.
